“We’re thrilled to be making Northern Nevada music history,” says Kitty McKay, co-owner of the new restaurant, lounge and music venue, the Nashville Social Club in Carson City. “The first ever show at the 'The Swan’ Music Hall is happening this Friday, August 12.”
“The Swan” (newly remodeled in the other half of the expansive building) embodies the heart of an iconic Americana music hall. World class artists traveling from across the country are lining up to come to Carson City to play in the tradition of legendary venues like Third and Lindsley in Nashville, The Palms Playhouse in Winters, Calif., and The Birchemere in Washington, DC.
An expression of co-owner John Procaccini’s passion for presenting live music in an intimate, soul-stirring setting, “The Swan” has a 240-person capacity, a generous stage and state-of-the art concert sound and lighting. Concert goers will also be treated to the hip vibe of the space, with its dark walls and ceiling, art deco swan motif wallpaper, chandeliers and wood flooring.
“We have something for everyone at The Swan,” says the club’s Entertainment Director, Evangeline Elston. “The Swan will host seated concerts, dance parties and many with a mix of both. We’ll be bringing all kinds of music: country, folk, blues, rock n roll, gospel, even jazz from every corner of the country. Our approach is to bring artists from diverse backgrounds and genres within the broad scope of Americana Roots music — those who are masters of their craft with world class performance chops,” Elston said.
McKay is quick to pipe up, “You may not have heard of these acts before their show, but once you experience them, you will never forget.”
Enlivening the hall’s grand opening on August 12 is Ultrafaux Ensemble, a supergroup from Baltimore, Maryland. The group dazzles with their original music inspired by gypsy swing, be-bop, Balkan music, bluegrass, swing, funk, and blues. They have thrilled audiences at top music festivals and concert halls around the globe. Founder of the Hot Club of Baltimore, Michael Joseph Harris was named one of the city’s best musicians by Baltimore Style magazine and the show will also feature two-time Grammy winning fiddle player Evan Price, Ross Howe on rhythm guitar and bassist Dexter Williams.
When asked what Ultrafaux Ensemble sounds like, Entertainment Director Evangeline Elston grinned saying “Ultrafaux Ensemble sounds like pure foot tapping, head-bobbing joy.”
The August 12 concert will be a seated show and guests who want to jump out of their seat and groove will find pockets of danceable space around the venue and adjoining Studio B.
